PhD Defense: Graph Algebraic Grammars for Semantic Parsing
7 November 2022
Abstract: Some aspects of a text’s meaning can be represented by formal structures, such as graphs that describe the objects referenced in a sentence and their respective roles. Semantic parsers are software systems that automatically create such meaning representations by learning from a collection of examples. In this talk, I discuss how graph-algebraic operators can be combined with the linguistic theory of Combinatory Categorial Grammar in order to build a semantic parser for English.
